A great double snake ring, set in 9ct rosey gold and dating from the Edwardian era.

With its shapely fluid forms, this two headed snake ring curves and hugs the finger beautifully. Set with two small rosecut diamonds on each head, the elongated heads nestle side by side, with a comfortable low profile on the finger. In good antique condition, the gold has a lovely soft patina to it, to note one of the snake’s tails has broken off to one side (a historical break, the gold has softened over time and it is not noticeable when worn, in my opinion).

Serpent rings became popular in the Victorian era, after Prince Albert gifted the young Queen Victoria with a serpent ring during their courtship. The snake came to symbolise an enduring love and friendship with its coiled shape representing eternity. The imagery of two snakes with intertwining bodies, makes it all the more special and meaningful.
