This is a superb antique three stone opal and old cut diamond ring, set in 18ct gold and dating from the Victorian era.
Set with three oval cabochon opals and four old cut diamonds, it is a bright and beautiful example indeed!
The quality and condition of the opals is stunning - full of light and fire, they have an amazing play of colour. Very difficult to pick one colour to single out, it’s truly the full spectrum of a rainbow, with strong orange, blues, yellows and greens.
The centre opal cabochon measures 4.3 x 3.5mm and the two opals on the sides measure around 2.9 x 2.3mm. The four old cut diamonds twinkle beautifully, have lovely colour and clarity and weigh a total of 0.12ct. They have lovely little puffy crowns under magnification and are extremely sparkly! The face of the ring measures 15mm wide, beautiful ornate scrolling along the gallery; the shank is sturdy with a beautiful warm butter gold patina to it. In lovely antique condition, the stones are clean and free of bastions, some historical evidence of resizing is there, but not noticeable.
Size: O/US7.25 (resizable with care)
Tests 18ct, hallmarks are rubbed off
Weighs 3.2g
A lovely Victorian opal and diamond ring, in great overall condition that would make a wonderful addition to your collection.
