A beautiful cluster mourning ring set in 18ct gold and dating from the late Georgian, early Victorian era.
Set with a stunning deep blue sapphire and a cluster of fourteen most perfect creamy pearl petals. All original stones, the sapphire is a deep saturated blue with hints of lighter flashes within, as it moves around the light. The pearls are a creamy white colour, puffy and so well matched, still in very good condition after all these years. The sapphire measures 5.5 x 4.5mm and in its setting, the whole flower cluster is 11 x 10mm.
With a classic Georgian ornate shank with scrolled detailed shoulders, the underside of the gallery was once possibly a hair compartment/locket which is now empty.
There is a sentimental inscription still visible inside the shank that reads “Amelia … with 1.56 Agd 20” - I am pretty sure the date is 1856 and this would have been a ring worn in her memory.
Size: L/US5.75 (resizable slightly)
Tested 18ct
Weighs 1.9g
A truly wonderful piece of history and antique ring. In very good condition considering it is around 200 years old, would make a beautiful addition to any collection.
