A very old mourning ring this, dating from 1836, the end of the Georgian era.
A poignant treasure, this beautiful mourning ring remembers M Litton who died April 24th, 1835 at the age of 54. Set with black enamel and a small hair locket behind crystal glass, the ring is beautifully made. Featuring wonderful engraved details, sculpted hand chased shoulders and engraving, you can see there is loss to the enamel. I can’t tell whether the locket contains anything now, it is a piece that was clearly treasured and worn a lot. The old patina is simply wonderful, a butter gold that glows.
