I fell in love with this ring the moment I saw it!
There’s so much playful light and joy in it! Set with a wonderful mother of pearl that glimmers in the light, there’s a beautiful array of colours to be found,flashes of pinks, pearly grey, hints of purple, all the time surrounded by the golden glow of antique gold. The carved mother of pearl depicts a lovely portrait of a young woman, she looks slightly mischievous to me, all in wonderful condition, no wear that I can see. Bezel set in antique rosy gold, a substantial ring, with a simple, yet striking oval shaped setting, it measures 17mm top to bottom by 12mm wide and rises 4.1mm from the finger. It is open back, I am not sure if it has always been like this, or whether it has lost its backing along the way….
A wonderful Edwardian example of a carved cameo, lovely to find one with a mother of pearl, as very often you see cameo shells.
